Star + pairs

This step is fairly easy and if you know the CFOP (Fridrich) method for 3x3 you'd probably do this automatically if you see the minx for the first time. Complete the star by solving the first 5 edges and then fill up the 'slots'.

The star The very first and easiest step. The only thing you have to do is search for the 5 edge pieces that have white on them and solve them.
For speed: plan this step in your 15 seconds preinspection already as far as you can! (I know it's hard to see this all but try to see at least 3).

The first five pairs After the star make sure you put the star on the bottom (note: the picture is still from the bottom so you can see the effect better). You'll need to see as much of the rest of the puzzle as possible.
For beginner 3x3 solvers: first put in all corners with RUR'/RU'R' like moves and then the edges with moves like: RU'R'U'F'UF. For more advanced 3x3 solvers: pair up a corner/edge pair and insert. Sometimes it's better to pair up the pieces first and then move it towards the slot, sometimes it's better to move the individual pieces to the slots and solve them then.

Onto the next step! After the first 'F2L'
